– Winter Proofing –

We winter proof with a spray application of anti-desiccant applied to leaf surfaces to minimize winter moisture loss. Broad leaf evergreens (i.e., Rhododendron, Holly, Laurel, Azaleas, etc.) can be damaged during the year by insects or disease. When the efficiency of the plant’s metabolism has been affected and the plant is in a weakened condition, an anti-desiccant spray is needed to provide the margin for both survival and recovery. An anti-desiccant will help tremendously to preserve broad leaf evergreens that are exposed to wind, southern exposures and salt sprays.

Damage occurs during a harsh winter where roots are frozen and great amounts of moisture are lost through the leaves and needles. In addition, damage can occur in mild winters where the alternating temperature causes havoc with the plant. Extended periods of mild winter weather can disrupt dormant plants, making them vulnerable to injury from rapid temperature drops.
